“It’s Better to Look Up” Sign & Printable

Sharing is caring!

I’m a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. This means every April and October we watch our prophets and apostles and many other members of our church speak to us and fill our hearts with inspirational messages. It’s such a wonderful time for us to reflect on our lives and make resolutions to be better. I loved this particular story this year: It’s Better to Look Up! I even made a sign to remind me.

There was a story told in General Conference about one of the leaders getting called to serve a new, daunting position.  On his first day, he got in the elevator…

“The door opened and someone entered, but I didn’t look up. As the door closed, I heard someone ask, “What are you looking at down there?”

I recognized that voice—it was President Thomas S. Monson.

I quickly looked up and responded, “Oh, nothing.” (I’m sure that clever response inspired confidence in my abilities!)
But he had seen my subdued countenance and my heavy briefcase. He smiled and lovingly suggested, while pointing heavenward, ‘It is better to look up!'”

I loved this story because of the subtle reminder to turn to God.  It’s positive without being preachy.  I was searching for the perfect quote to put on a sign that I wanted to hang in my bedroom and this struck me.

The vinyl was cut for me by my buddies Kellie and Kristi from Lolly Jane Boutique.  I stained a large piece of plywood with Minwax Walnut (my favorite stain.)  And they cut the vinyl as a stencil, so I used some white paint and a sponge brush and gently sponged it on.  MUCH better results than my subway art sign.

And cuz I’m SUCH a nice guy, I made you a printable in these delightful colors for you to Remember to Look Up.

      Thanks Kelli!

  2. They’re really sweet. Could you do them with an apostrophe so they’re grammatically correct? Would love to use them!
