Adding Purple Accents in Your Home Decor

purpleslide

So in my Update Your Living Room in One Hour post it was between purple and coral and you voted purple!  So I’ve been adding in some purple accents.  Take a look…

I know, I know, I changed my living room wall again. It’s a hobby of mine. And now, not because you asked but because I felt like it, Here is the breakdown of the cost of my living room.  Every single thing in there comes in under $1400.  (It’s my way of reassuring myself that I am thrifty despite my compulsive need to decorate.)

Grand Total:  $1342

See those candleholders? (The ones holding the teacups.) I made those. I bought candlestick holders and tiny plates at Savers (a thrift shop.) I used apoxy to glue them together just like the cupcake tower I made. A little spray paint and I just saved like $50.

When I got married almost 6 years ago we bought everything in black accents.  So I have been spray paint happy this week.  Those cute little teacups were once black.  Those lanterns were once black.  And I already told you about the aqua frames.  I’ve also spray painted some other black picture frames and black lamps which you will see later on in life.

Make a Framed Bow Holder

bowholder1

I saw the idea for a framed bow holder a LONG time ago and couldn’t wait for the day when I could make one for my daughter.  And now that daughter is on her way and I finally got to make it.  I’m sure you’ve seen these before, although mine is a little more ‘pie-like.’

It’s made with ribbons.  So fun, right?

The colors I chose for my baby girl is raspberry pink (or honeysuckle), light pink, mustard yellow (although I’m fully aware this yellow is much more lemony) and aqua.

I started out with this nasty framed plate from the thrift store.

Then I spray painted it Krylon’s Watermelon.  Oh how I love spray paint.  I could write a testimony about spray paint…maybe someday I will.

Then I laid out my ribbon the same way you weave a lattice.  Two ribbons alternating going horizontally and two alternating ribbons going vertically.  I taped the tops down so I could weave it.

Then I lifted up all but one of the ribbons, then laid the opposite side down, then the other side again, and the other side last.  That’s totally confusing so here is the order:  Deep pink first, then aqua down, then yellow down, then light pink down.

The trouble at this point was that you couldn’t see any of the deep pink.  So I took the light pink ribbon and poked it under the yellow ribbon.

Like this.

And this is what I got.  I then made sure that it was big enough for my frame (actually I did this before when I was first laying down the ribbon.)

Looking cool right?

To fit it inside, I cut out a circle of cardboard.  I then taped down the other two sides of the weaved ribbons so I could flip the whole thing over.

And then I just folded over the excess and taped it down because I didn’t have hot glue and wanted to be done.  Ta da!

Looks terrible and unprofessional right?  Well I didn’t care.

Because I fit that circle into the frame and twisted those ‘things’ that held the plate in back over. And…

Voila.  Perfection in Pie form.

This was a pretty easy project that didn’t cost a lot and didn’t take a lot of time.  Now I have a fun way to hold my girl’s bows and clips which I have in a box at home.  Yay!

Aqua White and Silver Vignette

Remember how I love Aqua and White?
Now I love Silver too.
Here is my new living room vignette!!
And be sure to read to the end for my exciting find!

Silver vase with faux orchid:  Ross: $7, spray painted silver; Canvas picture of Luke:  Free offer from Canvas People; White frame: Target many moons ago with Hobby Lobby fabric; Birds: $7 together from Hobby Lobby; Silver frame: Wedding present; Blue vase: Home Goods, $7
I LOVE these little love birds!!
I got these four silver candle holders from the thrift store for about $10 together.  I love the way they are all different tints and varying shiny-ness.  That really tall one is REAL silver!  And of course there is my Willow tree figurine from Grandma Joan and a blue IKEA vase.
These are off to the side on the EXPEDIT but you can’t see in my pics.  They used to be regular fake red apples but I spray painted them silver!  Love them!!
And just cause I’m so excited about this find, I got these patent leather Steve Maddens for only $7!!  Red is the color of LOVE.
{{Of course you would have already seen these if you Liked my page on Facebook!  I don’t want to beg but seriously it’s a party on FB!!}}
