Secrets to Buying and Selecting Fabric

Screen Shot 2013-01-15 at 9.40.36 PM

In my near-three years of blogging, the number 1 question I get asked is "Where do you get your fabric?!"  People have told me many many times that I have an eye for colors and design and I choose excellent fabrics that go together.  Here's what I have to say to that---Thanks!!  But also, I'm going to let you in on some of my secrets to buying and selecting fabric. DISCLAIMER:  This is not a post about how to get fabric on the cheap.  I … [Read more...]

New Puff Quilt Pattern: ‘Puffy Island’

puffy island on the floor

Presenting my newest puff quilt pattern!  I call it Puffy Island because all the little puffs with the flat white sashing in between remind me of little desert islands in the ocean.  This puff quilt is a mixture of puffs and traditional flat quilting--the best of both worlds!  I chose a rainbow ombre scheme for this quilt because lets face it...it's super cute.  I've always loved the rainbow array of colors and I've got a few projects coming … [Read more...]

Make a Quilted Camera Strap Cover!

CSstrapslider

I know--there are a billion camera strap tutorials out there. But I was getting ready for SNAP! conference today and I realized, "Hey--I'm gonna look super lame without a handmade camera strap on my camera!" So I quickly referenced a few different tutorials to get a basic idea and came up with this quilted one. Now I'm not gonna lie here...the lens cap pocket doesn't fit my lens cap. But that was a learning curve of quilting the cover. But one … [Read more...]

Quilting Shortcut: the Eight Square Method

8squareslider

There are so many quilts you can make with triangles, or rather triangle squares.  I showed you a tutorial on how to make these with my pinwheel quilt, but here is a faster way.  I call it the Eight Square Method. (Ps I'm sure I did not invent this but I don't know what it's really called...please tell me if you know!) I was planning on making a 7x7 square, so I cut my squares 14x14. If you want to make a 5x5, cut it 10x10, doubling or … [Read more...]

Basketweave Quilt Pattern

basketweaveslider

I had this idea for a quilt a LONG time ago.  And one day last week, in a rare quiet moment of nursing, the idea popped back into my head and I had to shove ALL other projects aside and do it.  It was a little hairy at first, but after a lot of thinking and plotting, I think it turned out so cute!  I know, I know, it looks like a basic 2" square pattern--nothing revolutionary. It looks like a lot of work, right?  Would you be surprised to … [Read more...]

Letters from Home Quilt Pattern

letters quilt copy

Here is how I made the pattern for this quilt using the adorable Hometown by Sweetwater fabric generously provided by the Fat Quarter Shop: This quilt uses two charm packs of Hometown by Sweetwater and approximately 1 yard of cream quilters cotton.  The quilt ends up being about 28"x33",  a baby quilt First separate out your charm pack into groups of 4 and piece together, ironing the seams flat.  This picture only shows 9 sewn squares (36 … [Read more...]
