A Little Sewing Honesty

Here’s a sad little secret: Sometimes I get totally intimidated by other sewers out there. In the wide world of sewers, I feel like I rank somewhere in the bottom pool. I strut around my sewing machine, feeling like a champ when I sew an applique or a skirt, maybe even a little when I finally finish a puff quilt (three things that I make regularly). But then I go looking around and discover other sewers who are making fabulous things that I realize I would be totally intimidated to even try to sew! And don’t even get me started on professional quilters who own like five machines and maybe one of those $30,000 long-arm quilting machines. Just strolling around my local sewing shop makes me feel like a chubby little caterpillar amongst a bunch of butterflies who are so graceful and much more advanced and knowledgeable.

Here’s the thing: I also am not into quilting. Is that weird? I make puff quilts but that’s not really “quilting”. And I would do strip quilts too, but that’s about where my quilting would end…I just don’t enjoy making quilt tops. So that’s one thing I don’t care about getting better at.

But I would love to be able to make any item of clothing. Especially children/baby clothes. I want to make jackets, hats, shoes. I also would love to make a pretty little bag.

My goal for March:
-Nursing cover (not such a challenge, I know, but I need one.)
-Baby sling (I’m excited to try this because it doesn’t look too hard and they are so awesome to have.)
-Baby dress patterns (I already have several I need to try out. My first one is already all cut out and ready to assemble.)

Obstacle: Find the time! This baby is coming in six weeks and I need to get this stuff DUN.
