Applique Much?

Sharing is caring!

Still time to enter the Niandra giveaway!  It needs some love, so please leave some comments!

Applique:  A very simple art.  I truly believe anyone with a sewing machine (heck, even without one) can do this.  The funnest part for me is designing the applique itself, along with deciding which fabrics to use.  However, if you are not confident in your designing skills, here is a little treat for you, from me:  I have added several applique templates to my “Templates” page!  Here is my popular Owl template…

 So!

Here’s whatcha do:
Step 1:  Click the picture to make it bigger, drag it onto the desktop (or however you do that type of thing, it’s been a long time since I’ve used a PC)
Step 2:  Print it, preferably on cardstock.  Cut out the shape.
Step 3:  Iron on some Wonder Under onto your fabric of choice.
Step 4:  Trace the stencil onto the Wonder Under paper and cut out your fabric
Step 5:  Peel off the paper, arrange fabric shapes onto whatever you are applique’ing, iron
Step 6:  Sew an applique stitch, zig-zag, or straight stitch on the fabric.
If you use Wonder Under, you definitely will want to sew on the fabric after ironing.  The more expensive adhesives are sturdier and don’t have to be sewn.  However, if you are going to be washing it a lot (like a onesie) you should sew it.
I will be happy to provide a picture tutorial on this process; if anyone is interested…say so!  And keep checking back for new templates on the Templates page.  There is also a place where you can suggest template designs you would like to see!

I've been wanting to put an applique on a skirt I got the other day but didn't know how! Thanks for this – and yes, I would love some pictures 🙂

  3. I was wondering what are the best fabrics you would recommend for appliques. I want something with a silky look but does not fray much

Suggestions please! and am loving the templates

    Thanks
