You Want to Learn to Sew?

Sharing is caring!

I’ll have this week’s giveaway up later on, but right now I want to ask you all something.
I know a lot of you have recently acquired sewing machines but don’t know much about sewing.  I don’t profess to know everything about sewing…there are a lot of things I am terrible at!  (But then again, that goes for pretty much everything.)
Anyway, who would be interested in doing a sew-along with me?  Basically we would sew small beginner projects together that would teach basic principles and help you get to know your machines and gain the confidence to take on bigger projects.  We would cover basic sewing principles such as
  • Threading your machine
  • Winding your bobbin
  • Sewing a straight line
  • Different stitches
  • Troubleshooting
Things we could sew together would be things like:
  • Pot holders/trivets
  • Basic bag
  • Elastic waist skirt
  • Baby bib
And others!  Then, if we were feeling really adventurous, we could move on to things like zippers and sleeves!

Anyway, if enough of you are interested, then I’ll be starting the Sew-Along!  Be sure to speak up, your vote matters a LOT!

  14. this is such a sweet thing you're doing. Tho I do know how to sew, I'm rather stuck with a machine right now that doesn't want to. I'd follow along tho just for fun 🙂

If you had to buy a new machine…what would it be…NOT looking at anything fancy, but one that sews well 🙂

That sounds PERFECT! So many of the sew-alongs I've seen have been fairly advanced patterns…

  36. Jana Floyd says:

    I do, I do, I do!!!

  37. My hubby actually does all the sewing…but seeing as he is gonna be gone til Christmas, it would be nice to be able to use it myself!

  38. Stephanie says:

Beginner sewing class would be the bomb. I'm a total novice. But I don't think showing us to thread a machine and wind a bobbin would be helpful since those are machine specific. I'd just like to learn as we make simple projects. That way we can practice what you're preaching as we go along!

  39. <3 this idea! Sewing is one of my favorite things and I'm always looking for more projects that will teach me more about it!

  40. I would love to be included if it's not too late!!

  41. Dizzie Noodle says:

oh me too! I just found yur blog and am in love! I know some sewing basics, but would love to do a sew-a-long!! 🙂

  42. Eileen Young says:

    Hello Heidi:

I would love to learn how to sew! I did notice that this blog is from 2010; will you be offering another class in the near future?

    Thanks in advance!

    Eileen

    1. Heidi @ Honeybear Lane says:

Unfortunately this wasn’t a class, it was just a series of online tutorials. You can find them on my site under sewing!
