Weigh-In Wednesday #5: Fat Horse

Sharing is caring!

What do you do when you fall off the horse?

You get back on.

But what if this particular horse wakes up three times a night, goes to bed way too late, has two sick kids and a husband who is studying for his final board exam?

Wait…am I the horse in this scenario?  Okay scratch the whole analogy.

Part of me finds it sad that this is week 5 of my weight loss accounting and I have pretty much nothing to show for it.  But part of me is like, “hey–you just had a baby two months ago.  You’re still in survival mode.  Have a brownie.”

I’m sorry if this is a less than inspiring post but after the week I’ve had, I am feeling less than inspired.  It’s a really sad and difficult day when your newborn gets her first cold.  A cough and the sniffles are no big deal for most people but it’s just SO hard for babies.  They don’t understand why they feel so terrible and all they can do is cry and cry.

So I basically got nothing done and spent a lot of time cuddling with her.  And after she finally went to bed…well, let’s just say food went in my mouth.

We all have bad weeks.  So I will just get back on that horse.

  1. Me too!! OK, so I’m only 5 weeks PP still, but I have hit the weight plateau and it ain’t coming off on its own anymore. My Squidge has a cold, too. PLUS she’s hit that oh-so-awesome colicky stage where she screams for two or three or four hours every night. Right when I’m trying to put the chitlins to bed. And Ben is still at work. Boo. So yeah, hard to be motivated to get up and work out in the morning, hard not to console with food in the night when stress levels hit maximum. Hang in there!! We ARE still in survival mode. And the kiddos’ health and happiness is foremost, not our waistlines. Reboot again after V day, I say :).

  2. I don’t have any kids (yet) so I can’t say I know what you are going through. However, I know how it is to struggle with the weight thing. Girl, you are beautiful and talented and have so much going for you! What I fianlly did, is decide to give myself a break and love on myself a little. I don’t focus on the scale anymore, I focus on feeling good physically and feeling good about my decisions. Anyways, I have been following along with you and I have to say, I am very proud of you for everything you have accomplished. I know you will do this too, just hang in there!!

What a wonderfully sweet comment–thank you! I think I need to go shopping for some clothes that fit me better–I’m sure I will feel better once I can wear clothes that actually fit!

  3. We definitely all have bad weeks. Don’t beat yourself up. In my humble opinion, it’s much more important to love on those babies while they are little. Just try to do little things through out the day so you have little moments of accomplishment. 10 sit ups in between activities or something. Ya know? I found a great picture on one of my friends facebook page. It says:

“Know the Difference. SET BACK: You slipped up. Screwed up. Lost focus. Caved. Gave in. Got busy. Got lazy or distracted yourself. FAILURE: You decided your health wasn’t worth the effort.”

    Hang in there!

  4. I’m sorry it has been a difficult week for you. I’m exhausted just reading about it. Sometimes we feel like we’ve “gotten nothing done”, when in reality it has been a really busy week. Cuddling a baby, caring for sick kiddos, trying to run a house while husband is busy with school. Those are all huge efforts. I know because I’ve been there {and somehow lived through it}. I find when I am exhausted or not feeling well, I use food to try to fuel me. It doesn’t really work because often what I need is sleep, but it’s just the way the body reacts to stress. Hopefully the kids are feeling better now and (if you choose) you can get back on track with weight loss. We all have weeks like that and we should cut ourselves a little slack. Seriously, you accomplished a lot last week and it wasn’t easy — so I would just move forward with a big pat on your back! ;o)

  5. I’m sorry your little princess is stuck w/ a yucky cold! That was hard for me and Graham was 6 months old before he even got one, so I can’t imagine with a newborn what it would be like! Don’t beat yourself up so much over the weight loss (or lack thereof). My doctor told me not to even try to diet until at least 8 weeks PP, and that was only because I was not breastfeeding. He said 12 weeks at least if I changed my mind and decided to BF. Might want to check into that with your doctor? I really think all the extra stress going on in your life is what’s giving you trouble, plus breastfeeding makes you hold onto some excess weight anyway. OF course, i’m no doctor! 🙂 Good luck with it all and quit calling yourself fat! 🙂 I’ve got 60 pounds on you, girl. 🙂

I have to agree, don’t beat yourself up! Your family is worth far more than some lbs!
    Hang in there!!!

  7. That has got to be the largest hoss I have ever seen.
