Baby Skinny Jeans Tutorial

Sharing is caring!

I had these dumpy Walmart baby jeans from when Will was a baby.  They were never very cute.  But I took them to the sewing machine and now they are!

These are super easy. Of course you have to have the pants first. But you can do this with any pair of wide leg pants.

I used a pair of Miss E’s leggings as a guide. However, if you don’t have any, you can turn the jeans inside out and put them on your baby. Then pinch the extra fabric you want to get rid of and draw a line along his/her leg (on the fabric of course.)  But using the leggings as a guide, I turned both pairs of pants inside out and lined up the edges of the pants.

Then I pinned along where the leggings ended (but I recommend using a fabric pen or chalk.  I didn’t have any.)  When you get to the crotch, I would keep it close to the original seam because babies got big diapers.  🙂  Then sew along the pinned line.  If you are nervous, do a wide loose baste first, check it and then sew a regular seam.

After you’ve sewn it, you can cut off the excess leg material.  Then I did an overcast seam along the edge (but you can do a simple zigzag too.)  Turn them right side out and you are done!

I happen to think they are adorbs.   Almost as adorbs as the baby wearing them.  She totally pulls them off, right?

And maybe one of these days I’ll do a tutorial on making your own jeans skinny. 🙂
