Colorful Living Room

Sharing is caring!

I actually really love neutrals.  I love the softness of beiges and creams, the cleanness of whites, the contrasts of grays and blacks.  It’s very sophisticated.  But I think there’s a bigger part of me that loves color more.  Color makes me complete.  It doesn’t have to be over-the-top, paint-the-wall-pink bright color.  It can be subtle, but there.  So I created a colorful living room.

I have a lot of aqua and soft blue in my home, and as much as I love that color, I needed some warmth.  I needed a warm color.  Orange and coral go so well with blue, as complementary colors on the color wheel.  I have a few things here and there–pillows, plants, blankets, etc.

world market living room

But World Market, one of my most favorite go-tos for home decor, has a whole bunch of new items that were remarkable.  And also happen to be in the colors of my home.  I thought about creating a gallery wall with some of their beautiful art and wall decor, but the pieces I fell in love with were too large to fit together on a single wall.  So they are displayed throughout the living room to view from all sides.

horse pic

This Horse picture is my favorite–impressionistic and blue, but with that country vibe.

bicycle art

I also got that cute bicycle print on the reclaimed wood… “love the journey” it says.  I think it’s good to have words as well as pictures.

bridge art

In contrast, the Brooklyn Bridge picture (which has orange and blue) represents the more modern side of us, the side that likes the modern conveniences and modern style.  This picture is my ‘real life’ picture (referring to the media players).  I kept asking my husband to store those in the top drawer but he has yet to get around to it so here you go…this is how we watch TV.

metal decor

I love this cool little metal sphere.  It’s this awesome shape and color and is the perfect thing to sit on top of my most favorite console table and adds this little pop of gold.

everett table

I have been eyeing this table for like a year and finally had the perfect place for it in my home–behind the couch.  It’s the most beautiful finish, weathered and soft, like the rest of the wood furniture in my house.

fat blue vase

I love, love, love this ginormous fat vase.  I bought it at World Market a couple months ago and it’s been one of my favorite purchases.  I even thought about this purchase for like six months–that’s when you know you need it.  I bought some floral blooms (faux) in the perfect shade of coral to complement the rest of the color scheme.

giant industrial clock

And hello, the clock!  This clock, admittedly WAY larger than I even planned, is an amazing statement piece.  And yes, I did very recently add the white grid board and batten to that stair wall.  It needed it, after doing the stair wainscoting–they just go together.

I haven’t shared with you my dining room yet but believe me, I am in love with how this space is coming together.  Eventually we’d love to do a much beefier mantel and built-ins on either side, but money money money.  This works for now.

I have to say, having color in my living room helps me be more bold in my design choices.  I don’t need to stress if navy blue will fit in, I just make it fit because I love it.  Does navy blue go with this beautiful gray rug?  Um, if I SAY it does, it does!  When you have so many different colors, textures, and patterns, you can get away with more.  Check out World Market’s throw pillows and home decor to add in your own texture and color!
