What size is a twin-size quilt?  What is a fat eighth?  What is a layer cake? What does WOF stand for? If these are questions you've had to ask or google, don't be embarrassed because I have had to as well. Quilting is full of jargon that can be confusing if you're new to quilting and to ask someone what it is would reveal just how little you know, right?  I have had so many times of looking things up when planning a new quilt or something … [Read more...]

A Hole in the Ground

It has been forever since I've written about my house!  And yet it's all I can think about.  There are several factors contributing to the delay of our house, but last week I got the call:  The permit was back and they were going to start digging the house! The neighborhood has gone up so fast, it is insane.  Just a couple months ago there was nothing but a dirt road.  Now there are literally 17 houses up and framed and a nearly complete … [Read more...]

Rustic Wood Pumpkins

These rustic wood pumpkins are simple and classic.   I love this decor for autumn and Halloween. If you aren't comfortable with saws, you could have the home improvement store cut it for you, right while you're picking up your 4x4.  I love 4x4 wood...it's so versatile for crafting.  I actually found my 4x4 in my parents' garage and I took it home and just cut it up with my gorgeous miter saw. What you need: 4x4 wood Decoart … [Read more...]

My third class I'm taking on Craftsy is called Finishing School:  Edges and Binding. I could have used a class like this four years ago when I first started quilting.  My first quilts had the most abominable binding and after that I found out about mitered corners.  Then I searched the internet for anything I could find on how to make mitered corners and back then, there wasn't much! In Craftsy's Edges and Binding Class you will … [Read more...]

Three Layer Ice Cream Bars

dreyers ice cream bars

Schools in session, fall is in the air, and summer is sadly...over.  Sniff!!  We had a wonderful Labor Day celebration last weekend and I made these awesome, summery three-layer ice cream bars.  I used Dreyers ice cream for this recipe, the slow-churned rich, creamy, type.  I used S'mores, Drumstick, and Butter Pecan for these bars but you could use any ice cream combination you want.  But I have to say, this combo was amazing.  The buttery taste … [Read more...]

Winter Storage Solutions

This shop is part of a social shopper marketing insight campaign with Pollinate Media Group® and Rubbermaid but all my opinions are my own. #pmedia #FallFixUp http://my-disclosur.es/OBsstV As you might know, we have been renting a walkout basement apartment for the last two years.  This has been a good place for us to transition while my husband was a resident and while we wait for our house to be built (which feels like it is taking forever!) … [Read more...]
