As I was wondering what to blog about, I was reading some other friends’ blogs, and I was reminded about the one thing, the one essential role, that I live every second of my day. That so many women do, and it often goes unnoticed and frequently unrewarded. It is never ending and tiring, trying, and frustrating. But it also has the biggest payoffs. Yep…it’s Motherhood.
While every mother deserves props, I especially want to give my appreciation to all the single moms out there, including those military wives who go months and years without seeing their spouse. I simply can NOT imagine how tiring and hard it must be to raise children by yourself, especially when you have to provide for them financially as well. And how hard it must be to not have that other person to fall back on to give you love, support, and encouragement to help you know that you are doing a great job, even when you feel like you’re failing. My dear aunt became a single mother of eleven(!) children when her husband left her and I think about that all the time…how hard that must have been. Emotionally, physically, mentally. Do you ever recover?
I also know there are mothers out there who had a baby and have found that they are not enjoying the ride of parenthood. I want to encourage you to stick with it and try to find a way to make it great for you. You have the blessing that so many others would love to have but may not have it. You have a child or children who look up to you for guidance and love. But you also don’t need to feel guilty for wanting more time to yourself, heck, we all do. It’s not the end of the world if you need to pop in a movie for them so you can have a few quiet moments to yourself.
I know this video has been circulating around so many of you may have seen it, but I only just watched it today and was very touched. Please watch it! There’s no job more crazy or sweet than being a mother.
