So…I have a slight love affair with Halloween. I have so many fun memories of Halloween. My best friend and I went trick-or-treating together year after year, dressing up as princesses and witches pretty much every year. It was just us two, heading out on the cold and foggy evening, running from house to house begging for candy and occasionally getting scared out of our wits. My BFF always had this weird obsession with creepy graveyard-ey type stuff and loved to freak me out with it.
And then there were the family traditions…carving pumpkins, the church Halloween party, counting our candy after the big haul. I went trick-or-treating with my brothers a few years I think, but they were hard core and would stay out in the cold for hours and hours, so they could win the competition of who got the most candy. One of my brothers was so good at hoarding his candy he would have leftover Halloween candy for literally years, stashed in shoe boxes around his room. Me? I devoured it all within a few days.
Now that those days are sadly past, I am excited to begin reliving those memories through my own children and family. One thing that I do than my own mom didn’t is decorate for Halloween. This year I’m really loving my Halloween decorations.
I love this collection. I bought the raven plate at Home Goods, along with a spider plate in the next picture. I made the ‘old gate’ which you might remember being above my couch. I like it here much better. The old candlesticks and galvanized baskets are from D.I. (like Goodwill) and Target, and I assembled the fall flower arrangement and I’ve had it for a few years.
I also love this vignette. There’s the spider plate that I mentioned before, and the ‘spooky tree’ I actually bought at Walmart a few years ago for like $7. I bought the white cupboard door from IKEA in the AS IS section for like a buck, and used my Silhouette to cut out the vinyl on top. (The reference is from Edgar Allen Poe’s poem “The Raven”-in case you didn’t get that.) As for the pumpkins, I bought this super cheap orange decoration at a grocery store the first Halloween I was married. This year I used Krylon’s new Glitter Blast spray in gold to amp it up. I love the new look! I will be doing a post soon on the Glitter Blast spray.
I still have a ton more decorations to show you! They are not done yet though, so stay tuned!
