LOVE Marquee Letters

This post originally appeared on SNAP! Conference blog. I'm not gonna lie, 2014 was one of my most challenging years.  We built a new house, my husband got a new, incredibly busy position at work, his mother passed away as well as my grandpa.  But summing it up like that doesn't really touch how stressful all these things were for me.  It was crazy! It was also a great year for me career wise.  It was one of the first times when I just kept … [Read more...]

DIY Mudroom Bench Part 2

love this mudroom bench

So it's time to talk about the top part of my DIY Mudroom Bench.  This part was actually pretty easy and painting was the longest part (isn't it always?)  But once you get past the first part of the actual bench, this part will seem easy. All the supplies you will need were listed in my DIY Mudroom Bench Part 1 post. So first I laid a piece of 3.5x48" MDF across the bottom and then trimmed it to be the same length as the bench.  I … [Read more...]

DIY Mudroom Bench

I just completed my best DIY yet--a DIY mudroom bench!  It may not seem that awesome to you DIY gurus, but each project like this gives me the confidence and skills to take on something even bigger.  And I completed this 100% by myself, no help from any other person.  I took the time and care to try and make it look as professional as possible. I think it turned out awesome and I love, love, love it!  I love the way it turned out but I … [Read more...]

Living with White

white couches

I just moved...into a house we built that I am in love with.  It's basically a dream come true, living here.  And I'm working on a full tour post but that requires a lot of cleaning that I haven't done yet!  That will come soon.  But for now here is a little glimpse... I have TONS of white in my house.  I have white couch slipcovers--three of them (two IKEA Ektorp couches, one I made myself), white kitchen cabinets, white countertop, white … [Read more...]

I love marquee signs--don't you? They are so fun and cheerful.  And so is Christmas, so why not combine the two?  Marquee signs are not as hard as they might seem.  And for an extra Christmasey effect, I candy-cane striped the board.  And now- here's how to make your own Christmas marquee sign. Easy Thanksgiving Centerpiece Ideas

thanksgiving board centerpiece

I have a few easy Thanksgiving centerpiece ideas to share today.  They really are so super simple, don't require many elements or know-how, and are still beautiful and elegant. The first one is a 1x8 board, stained dark walnut, with some burlap over the top.  I added different rustic fall decorations on top and played with it.  The possibilities are endless and what's nice is that sometimes centerpieces are too tall for good conversation, … [Read more...]

Decorating for Real Life

decorating for real life book

My beautiful and talented friend Wendy Hyde has just written a book.  And it's an incredible book too.  I received it last week and couldn't put it down.  I've read other decorating books and they seemed to be filled with the same types of design.  So if you don't happen to like that style, then too bad.  It's called "Decorating for Real Life." Wendy's book is filled with all different sorts of design styles, inspired from real people's … [Read more...]

Simple Thanksgiving Mantel

I don't think I have ever decorated for Thanksgiving.  I'm always too excited for Christmas to give Thanksgiving a proper presence in my home.  This year, I feel like I've been too busy to even get excited for Christmas yet.  I have so much going on--a wedding to plan (my sister's), a house to move into in 5 weeks, tons of blog projects, and most recently, a funeral to help plan, execute, and attend.  My husband's mother died last week after a … [Read more...]
