READ CAPTION Painting Mistakes I Made: 1: Sprayi READ CAPTION Painting Mistakes I Made: 1: Spraying with the tip facing the wrong direction. All the primer paint was spraying on thick, narrow, and drippy. I could NOT figure out what the problem was! Finally after literally spraying the entire thing, I realized the problem. The spray gun has a tip that has two settings depending on which direction it faces—SPRAY or UNCLOG. Guess which side I had it on??! Once I flipped it to Spray, I was able to spray the topcoat color just fine. 2. Using thin masking plastic to protect the carpet. It just didn’t work once the paint starting getting on the floor, it became very tacky and pulled the tape up super easily. You always want to use a combination of strong, wide tape with a durable construction paper or cardboard and also a drop cloth over that. 3. Rushing the process. I was in such a hurry to finish it all in one day that I definitely didn’t do my finest work! And guess what? I ended up using more time anyway fixing my mistakes. When I had multiple drips, it required more sanding and smoothing and now I’m going to have more touching up to do as well. 🤦‍♀️ #paintingtips #paintingtutorial #diypainting #roommakeover #spraypainting #gracopaintsprayers

I have graduated from the cheap plastic garland for my own personal decor and so I cut up my old garland and stuff it inside the tree! This super important step makes a HUGE difference in how the tree turns out and believe me, I’ve tried it both ways. What’s your favorite Christmas tree hack? Whether you’re spraying or rolling, you have to pr Whether you’re spraying or rolling, you have to prep the surrounding areas that you don’t want to get painted! I love this masking tape/plastic sheet combo! I’ve used it for lots of projects, but especially for painting with a sprayer. I love that the plastic expands out to four feet, giving you a nice buffer for the overspray! You can find this at most Home Improvement stores or on Amazon. It even come in a 2 ft plastic length for smaller projects! I will say, however, this isn’t the best for putting on the floor. You really need something heavier like a drop cloth. Sprayers usually cause a lot of air to blow the plastic around so it has to be well taped and just won’t stay put when you’re walking on it! #paintingtips #paintinghacks #doityourselfproject #spraypaint #paintsprayer #paintingprep
BUILDING DRAWERS IS EASIER THAN YOU THINK! I had BUILDING DRAWERS IS EASIER THAN YOU THINK! I had to build 4 drawers for Ellie’s built in window seat. These are huge drawers! I started with 1/2” plywood because I feel like 3/4” is just too heavy and thick. I also bought some 1/4” plywood for the bottom. I cut the drawer sides to size, which is 1” smaller than the width of the drawer opening (to allow for the drawer slides) and a few inches shorter than the height of the opening. Before I assembled them, I cut a channel out on each drawer side with my router. You can use a table saw for this also. If you don’t have either, you can attach the bottom to the bottom of the sides, but be sure to glue and screw it, otherwise it will eventually fall out. To assemble the drawer box, I drilled pocket holes on each end of the front and back of the drawer and then used clamps and glue to assemble. I stumbled upon these beautiful ceramic cream colored plates and bowls at Walmart a couple months ago and I immediately bought a set! You would expect these to cost AT LEAST $5 per piece but… …how about $1 per piece?? I was floored at the quality of these for the price!! HAVE YOU SEEN MY GHOSTS? 👻👻👻 This year’s addition HAVE YOU SEEN MY GHOSTS? 👻👻👻 This year’s addition to our haunted house for Halloween night are these super fun and not so scary ghosts! We got the ghost forms and the digital file from @atmosfx. The forms are just inflatable so they are super easy to store! We set up a projector and hide it in the bushes and then set up the ghosts in the yard. 🎃🎃🎃HALLOWEEN DINNER PARTY🎃🎃🎃 Start with a good qu 🎃🎃🎃HALLOWEEN DINNER PARTY🎃🎃🎃 Start with a good quality fabric for a tablecloth. I used this sheer black power mesh fabric from @fabricwholesaledirect as a base and also as an overlay for the center. It worked great because I was able to put the battery powered twinkle lights inside the mesh fabric and it looked like magical floating lights! After I laid the base for the table, I grouped my drippy candle bottles along the center. Then I laid out good chargers, black ceramic plates, gold plastic silverware, and white napkins. I always like to buy some cheap flowers at the grocery store to elevate the table setting. The roses I found on clearance for only $2.50! I laid a rose across each plate, then scattered mums and petals all around the table. The finishing touch was these iridescent goblets dipped in red dyed corn syrup which dripped down to look like blood. It’s sticky so I also provided straws with these! My friends brought some delicious food, drinks, and dessert so my main job was just the decor! HOSTING A HALLOWEEN PARTY?? This is a super easy HOSTING A HALLOWEEN PARTY?? This is a super easy drink idea! Take any clear soda as a base and then use a clean plastic syringe (Amazon!) and fill it a little with red soda flavoring (cherry or strawberry Torani syrup) or grenadine. Leave the syringe in the glass and let your guests add as much flavor as they want and it looks like blood! #halloweenpartyideas #spookydrinks #halloweendinner #blooddrink #vampiredrink #halloweentreat
Sometimes you forget to defrost the dang meat! Th Sometimes you forget to defrost the dang meat! Those tubes of ground meat won’t defrost in the microwave because of the metal clasp at the ends. But did you know that if you put frozen meat in a plastic bag (if it’s not already packaged) you can just thaw it in a bowl of warm water?? I’ve done this dozens of times and it always works perfectly and WAY better than microwave defrosting! My favorite is to thaw frozen fish or shrimp this way because it literally thaws in minutes. Throw them in the air fryer and you’ve got protein finished! I actually will just put the shrimp directly in the bowl and run warm water over it. NEED A HALLOWEEN CENTERPIECE? 🎃👇🏻 I have used the NEED A HALLOWEEN CENTERPIECE? 🎃👇🏻 I have used these drippy candles in bottles as a centerpiece for many years now but this year they are the drippiest ever! This year I bought some drippy candles on Amazon (most candles are dripless) and even though they did drip a lot, they still needed help to make a nice evenly dripped bottle. I used a regular black candle to melt more of the drippy candle and I love the thick black wax it created. These drippy candles also burn down very quickly so I will probably also have to use a regular candle instead. I melt both black and white candles and group them together for a cool, spooky gothic effect! #gothichalloween #halloweentablescape #drippycandles #drippy

Also removing the dead flowers allows the plant to give the new buds more energy and nutrients. Keep them watered (at the base, not on the blooms) and just before the first freeze, you can even plant them so they come back every year! We went on a trip to Disney World and my husband ended up in the hospital with two pulmonary embolisms. Florida felt stifling and so far from home. 👻🎃💀HALLOWEEN CRAFT IDEA 👇🏻 Who doesn’t love to pl 👻🎃💀HALLOWEEN CRAFT IDEA 👇🏻 Who doesn’t love to play with clay?! Throwback to all the days of playing with play dough and creating masterpieces—now you can have a grown up play dough day! This air-dry clay is only $10 for this huge container and I used only half of the clay to create 5 ghost candle holders! Use a good amount of clay. Roll into a cylinder and then push a taper candle into it. You won’t be getting this candles back out so just be aware of that. I rolled the top of the clay on the edge of the counter to get more of a ghost shape. You can use a tiny amount of water to smooth out the clay, but the more water you use, the more it will crack as it dries. Use you finger or similar to add a face. CLAY CRACKING TIP: once the ghosts have fully dried (mine took about 5 days) they will turn white and may crack. You can easily fix the cracks by mixing a small amount of clay and water to make a thick paste to smooth over the cracks and then let that dry again. Once they are dry, you can paint the face black. Then spray the entire thing with a glossy clear spray paint. That’s it!! This is a craft you will have to help with but you’ll have all the supplies you need at home: crayons, paper (card stock is better), tin foil, a mallet or something, and an oven. The best part is that they can do whatever they want, they don’t just have to do a fall tree! If they want to make a rainbow, do that! I shared this project last year and you guys loved I shared this project last year and you guys loved it! Or loved to hate it 😂 We took a few tablets and uploaded the @atmosfx Unliving Portraits to them. We found some basic “fancy” frames at @hobbylobby and put the tablets in them without the glass so they look like actual portraits. Just like Disneyland right?! I LOVE the Haunted Mansion!! We had these in our house for Halloween parties but my favorite was putting them out at the church trunk or treat for the kids!
