Adding Purple Accents in Your Home Decor

January 19, 2012

So in my Update Your Living Room in One Hour post it was between purple and coral and you voted purple!  So I’ve been adding in some purple accents.  Take a look…

I know, I know, I changed my living room wall again. It’s a hobby of mine. And now, not because you asked but because I felt like it, Here is the breakdown of the cost of my living room.  Every single thing in there comes in under $1400.  (It’s my way of reassuring myself that I am thrifty despite my compulsive need to decorate.)

  • Couch: Wedding Gift
  •  Couch Slipcover: $100 for fabric (fabric.com), I made it
  •  Couch Pillows: $50 –two of the forms came with the couch and I covered them.
  •  Purple Throw: $8 at Home Goods
  •  Mirror: $15, Goodwill 50% off
  •  Frames: $10 for the two, Goodwill 50% off
  •  Cornices: $2 at Savers
  •  Lanterns: $6 at IKEA
  •  Ship Helm: $1 at Goodwill, 50% off
  •  Lamps from Walmart and IKEA: $50
  •  Shelves from Hobby Lobby: $50
  •  Expedit: $70 from IKEA
  •  TV Hutch: $200 from RC Willey Scratch and Dent
  •  Side Cabinet: $100 from RC Willey Scratch and Dent
  •  White Rug: $60 from IKEA
  •  Wing Chair: $20 from Goodwill, 50% off
  •  Wing Chair Slipcover: Free cuz I made it from old sheets
  •  Lazy Boy Recliner: $500 –that was a splurge
  •  Curtains: $20 from IKEA
  •  All other accents: somewhere around $200

Grand Total:  $1342

See those candleholders? (The ones holding the teacups.) I made those. I bought candlestick holders and tiny plates at Savers (a thrift shop.) I used apoxy to glue them together just like the cupcake tower I made. A little spray paint and I just saved like $50.

When I got married almost 6 years ago we bought everything in black accents.  So I have been spray paint happy this week.  Those cute little teacups were once black.  Those lanterns were once black.  And I already told you about the aqua frames.  I’ve also spray painted some other black picture frames and black lamps which you will see later on in life.

WOW your living room looks fantastic! I’ve been looking for a great modern style for my room and I think yours is a great inspiration. A friend of mine recommended a site to me called worldtohome.com. I’ve bought a few things from them and they have a great selection of home decor stuff at a great price. Here’s the site if anyone is intrested!

..I love love love purple…the deep dark purple color…I came across your site while researching something, and love your post !! I love the color of the teacups ! I too, have purple accents in my own home….I have lived with ” neutral’ colors, and I prefer COLOR , …..my own home has the main colors of cream/ off white…with apple green, dark barn red. the purple and this sort of dark mossy green color. I have had people comment that even though there seems to be lots of color, it all looks cohesive. I so enjoyed your post, thank you for showing off the purple !
