Rustic Painted American Flag

old painted flag

This post originally appeared on the DecoArt blog June 2014. It's the season for being patriotic!  This rustic painted American flag craft I did is super easy and turned out so cute.  It's very rustic looking, but the only thing old is the wooden box its in.  You could recreate this even if you don't have reclaimed wood. I used this old reclaimed wood box I got at a thrift store.  Every time I go to the thrift store I keep my eye out … [Read more...]

Dark Gray Painted Chair

gray and coral

Big news guys, dark gray is IN.  It's hot!  It's trendy!  Go paint everything dark gray!  Okay--if you say so. But seriously, I have noticed a big increase of the amount of dark gray I'm seeing in the new houses being built around me, and having such a light color schemed house I am inclined to add a bunch of dark gray accents.  I haven't shared them with you yet but here's the first of many...a dark gray painted chair! It used to look … [Read more...]

DIY Grid Wainscoting

DIY Grid Wainscoting

I recently completed a huge, exhausting project--my guest room makeover.  My husband thought it would be awesome if I did board and batten around all the walls except for having one wall be a feature wall with grid wainscoting.  So in case you were wondering how to do it, here it is:  How to make grid wainscoting. I read several tutorials before I attempted this, but I ended up just doing it the way that worked the best for me.  Whenever I … [Read more...]

Navy and Pink Guest Room Reveal

pink and navy blue decor

Is it weird to get excited about a room?  Well I am weird and I get excited about rooms.  And houses.  And yards.  But this room---I am so excited about this room.  It's the big reveal day! We have an extra bedroom upstairs that is currently serving as a guest room.  Which meant that it housed the extra queen bed we have and that's about it.  It was in a sad, sad state and I was embarrassed when it came time to show it to guests wanting to see … [Read more...]

Chalkboard Coasters

chalkboard numbered coasters

Want a quick and easy project that also makes a great gift?  Chalkboard coasters. I got these wood sliced coasters at World Market awhile back (but you could easily find yourself a log and saw it up)  and grabbed some of my DecoArt chalkboard paint. I just squeezed some of the paint onto the coaster and painted it up to the bark border.  I let it dry for a couple hours. After it was dry, I rubbed some chalk across it to … [Read more...]

DIY Doorway Trim

door way trim

I recently gave my entry a makeover.  I added some beautiful board and batten which you can find a tutorial for here.  (It's a little different in the tutorial, but it's not hard to figure out how to adjust it.)  But at the end of the board and batten is a large doorway that leads to the master suite.  We wanted this to be trimmed out, so I planned it in with the board and batten project. Here's the before--you can see how boring it … [Read more...]

Heart String Art

love heart string art

I didn't even mean to call it 'heart string art' but there it is.  That's what it is.  Ha! I was challenged by Valspar and Porch.com to use the Pantone color of the year Marsala in a Valentine's Day project along with one other mystery item, which turned out to be a chevron stencil.  As it happens, I also was planning a project in which I would make a heart to go along with my rustic 'love letters' that I repurposed from my sisters wedding … [Read more...]
